Horse Activities

Join us for
horseback riding. You can bring your own horse or rent one of ours for
a trip on some of our trails through naturally wooded areas and the
beach. We offer riding lessons by a qualified instructor. Single rider
and group lessons are available.
Meet our Riding Instructors
Jason Babin is a full-time cowboy, horse trainer, experienced riding instructor and stable manager for Wanetiri Lakes. He is a life-long resident of southeast Louisiana and has been riding since he was a young boy. Jason's father and uncle taught Jason the secrets of breaking and properly training horses. Jason is known for breaking horses others won't ride. He has competed in countless rodeos in various events, and enjoys long trail rides in rugged terrain, rivers and streams to being most anywhere else. One of his many talents is the ability to teach children how to ride safely in a close one-on-one conversation on horseback, carefully watching both the rider and horse's movements. Many of the students Jason has taught include children that have learning challenges such as ADHD and Autism, as well as adults and groups. As a father of four young daughters and a husband, he is a committed family man who enjoys his work and improving other's ability to enjoy his favorite pastime - horseback riding!
Laura "Trigger" Smith is a riding instructor, consultant for the riding program and Summer Camp curriculum, and an experienced horse trainer. As a California native, she shares her depth of knowledge in western pleasure competition, Arabian breeding, and training. As a previous ranch owner, she has been involved in all aspects of equine sports and ownership. Trigger has a passionate committment to sharing her love of horses with others, and enjoys teaching all aspects of horsemanship. Trigger is also committed to educational improvement as the CEO and President of the Louisiana Council for Econimic Education. As a mom of one son, a wife, and owner of several horses, she is committed to providing the best experience possible for her students.
Anna Clarke is a wrangler, assistant to the instructors and summer camp counselor for Wanetiri Lakes. She is also a head wrangler through the Audubon Girl Scout Council and Camp Merrydale. Anna has experience with children and aspires to have a career in horse training and veterinary medicine. Anna owns two horses and is committed to sharing her love of horsemanship with all she meets.
